Dennis Smith resides in Camp County, Texas. He is a 1980 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural  Education. He earned his Masters degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.

He retired after 31 years as a County Extension Agent – Agriculture with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, serving in Polk, San Augustine, Camp and Gregg counties. Dennis works part time at B & S Home Center in Pittsburg and has served as President of the Camp County Farm Bureau. He and his wife Melinda own and operate a commercial cow-calf operation in Camp County.  Their daughter Kathryn earned degrees from Texas  A&M University and a Masters and PhD from New Mexico State University.  Unfortunately, Kathryn passed away after a battle with cancer in 2025.

Dennis and his wife are active members of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg.
