Board Member Spotlight

What’s your favorite mode of transportation, and why?

As a board member of the NET RMA since 2005, I am interested in all facets of transportation that improve our collective communities. Longview, Gregg County and North East Texas have seen many successes in transportation over the past decade. Yet, many challenges remain. I hope to be able to assist in many of those challenges going forward as a board member of the NET RMA.

Are there any transportation projects that you’re particularly proud of?

As Chairman of the East Texas Hourglass committee that is charged with connecting Tyler, Longview, and all of East Texas through the development of Toll 49, it has been great to see the expansion of Toll 49 north to I-20, followed by expansion north of Lindale and our current segment 6 which will connect to highway 271. I am looking forward to the committee’s work to assist with expansion of highway 271 to four lanes north of I-20, around Gilmer and north to I-30. This will facilitate the expansion of our remaining segments of Toll 49, Segment 7 north of Longview and Segment 8 which will connect north of Marshall to I-69.

Is there an upcoming project that you’re especially excited for?

The environmental study is underway to finalize a recommended route for Segment 6. Seeing that segment under construction in the next few years is something that I and all the board are excited about.

What do you enjoy most about being a board member?

Other than the personal interactions and relationships that have been developed over the years as a board member, I am proud of all our member counties and the collaborative nature of our work to improve all of northeast Texas with a focus on regionalism.

What is one of your favorite hobbies?

When away from work, family, and civic activities, I enjoy playing a round of golf or two.
