Mr. Michael Thomas graduated from Louisiana State University in 1989 with a B.S. degree in Accounting.

He began his career as a CPA doing audits of local businesses in Shreveport, Louisiana for KPMG Peat Marwick. In 1991 he moved to Tyler, TX where he began working for Arms, Jeffers & Co. doing federal income tax preparation, small business consulting and auditing. Then in 1999, he moved to Bailes & Co., P.C. another local firm where he added to his responsibilities in that he began doing business valuations and litigation support.

In 2007, Mr. Thomas started his own CPA firm where he preformed federal income tax preparation, small business consulting, business valuations and litigation support.. After two years of operating Michael Thomas, CPA, P.C. Mr. Thomas joined another local CPA, forming Barrett & Thomas, P.C., where he serves as Vice President. They perform federal income tax preparation, small business consulting, business valuations, tax-free exchanges and litigation support.

Mr. Thomas is very involved in the community, recently he served on the Tyler ISD Foundation board as President from 2007-2009. He is a Leadership Tyler graduate of Class 10 and served on their Board of Directors. He was the Chair of the Board at First Christian Church in Tyler in 2005 as well as serving on the finance committee, being the treasurer, a Deacon and a executive committee member at-large. Mr. Thomas also served as the President of the Texas Rose Festival Strutters Executive Committee in 2003, after serving a seven-year commitment on the executive committee. This committee is responsible for putting on the Texas Rose Festival Parade each year. In 2003-2004, Mr. Thomas served as Chairman on the Board of Directors for both the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Tyler/Smith County. From 2004-2005 he held the position of Chairman on the board of Tyler Vision 2010 Steering Committee to help plan an initiative to identify a priority list of major projects that would help Tyler’s business community be more competitive over the next 10-15 years.

Mr. Michael Thomas is married to Shea, his wife, and they have two daughters.
